INDIRA NOOYI | EARLY LIFE AND CAREER


Indra Nooyi is an Indian Born woman, settled in United States of America, born on 28 October 1955. She was born to a Tamil speaking family in Madras city of Tamilnadu state. She completed her high school from Holy Angles Anglo Indian higher secondary school, and achieved her bachelor’s degree in mathematics, physics and chemistry from Madras Christian College in year 1974 and completed her PG diploma in the field of management (MBA) in year 1976 from the Indian institute of management.                              

She started her career in India, held a position of product manager in Johnson & Johnson and from a textile mills Mettur Beardsell, In year 1978 she was admitted in a Yale school of management and got a degree in private management, she did her internship at Yale in Booz Allen Hamilton. After Graduating in 1980, Nooyi tied Boston Consulting group (BCG) and got tactical positions at companies like Motorola as well as Asea Brown Boveri.

Nooyi is one among the most successful business women of world. She is present chairperson and chief executive of PepsiCo, the second major food and beverage business across the world by revenue. She was the consistently in the run for the world’s 100 most powerful women. She stood 13th position in the Forbes list of 100 most powerful women in the world.

Nooyi tied up with PepsiCo and was made president and CFO in the year 2001. Nooyi has leaded the PepsiCo global strategy for a decade including the divestiture of its restaurants into Tricon in the year 1997, presently known as Yum! Brands, in the year 1998 she took the lead in the acquisition of Tropicana and the merger with Quaker Oats Company that added Gatorade to PepsiCo. In the year 2006 she became fifth CEO in 44-year history of PepsiCo. She was nominated the 3rd Post Powerful Woman in Business, by Fortune in year 2014.

As she was an CFO in 2001, according to the reports of Bloomberg business week, the company’s revenue has a great rise by 72%, while the net worth got increased twice i.e. up to $5.6 billion in year 2006.Nooyi was named among 50 women to watch, by Wall Street journal’s list in 2007-08, in the same year she was listed among 100 Most Prominent People of world.

COMPENSATION:

Nooyi earned a compensation of $17 million with an base income of $1.6 million in 2001 with a cash bonus of $2.5 million, the pension value and deferred compensation if $3 million. After Nooyi joined PepsiCo the business amount has increased which has lead to increase of business in the world.

HONORS, AWARDS AND INTERNATIONAL RECOGNITION:

Nooyi received great honor and awards from the society, she ranked in fourth place from the list of 100 most influential women in the world from Forbes magazine consecutively for 2006, 2007, 2008, 2009 and 2010, she was named as one of the America’s Best manager by U.S. News & World Report and got selected to the fellowship program in year 2008 by American Academy of Arts and Science.

 In 2008 January she got elected as Chairwoman of the US-India Business Council (USIBC)> She took the charge of the USBIC’s Board of Directors, an assembly of over 60 senior executives representing a cross-section of the US industry.

In year 2009, by Global Supply chain leaders group, she was named as CEO of the year, she has been considered as one of the “The Top Gun CEOs” by the advisory agency of Brendan wood International. She has been honored as second most powerful woman in the US business by kraft’s CEO, Irene Rosenfeld and also nominated to Institutional Investor Best CEOs list in the survey conducted by All-American Executive Team Survey in 2008 to 2011.
