No Visa requirements for Romanians travelling to Canada, starting Dec 2017

The Government of Romania is hailing Canada’s decision of fully lifting visa requirements on Romanian citizens traveling to Canada, commencing from 1st December 2017. This provision was incorporated in an EU-Canada summit declaration, held recently in Brussels.

According to a press release on Sunday, the Romanian Government stated, "After intense negotiations between Romania's Prime Minister Dacian Ciolos and Canada's Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, the Canadian Government has confirmed its commitment to fully lift the visa requirements for all Romanian nationals starting on December 1, 2017, after a first partial liberalisation stage starting on May 1, 2017,"

"This is an important moment to Romania, and not only because access opens for Romanian nationals of the benefits of the Comprehensive Economic and Trade Agreement (CETA), between the EU and Canada, but also because this way the last discrimination against Romanian nationals in relation with the other EU citizens is repealed when it comes to border-free travel to Canada. I also believe that the visa liberalization will generate significant opportunities for Romanian business people seeking partnerships with Canadian counterparts. I want to thank Mr. Prime Minister Justin Trudeau for his personal involvement in negotiations over this objective of Romania's and for his openness displayed in our conversations this year on the visa requirements," said Prime Minister Ciolos in his statement.

Romanian dignitaries are predicted to start work along with their counterparts from Canada, on attaining a successful visa-free status for travel and to establish arrangements for both the countries, in order to improve management of any migration trends that might be negative.

The statement mentions that the goal of visa liberalization, for all denizens of Romania going to Canada, had been accomplished with the conclusion of a diplomatic exercise that was pretty intense. The Government of Romania was able to accomplish this with MEP Sorin Moisa’s support and coordination from the European Commission. Simultaneously, an equally important part in this process is attributed to the technical resources that were consistently provided by Dragos Tudorache (Romanian Interior Minister) and John McCallum (Canadian Immigration Minister).
