Myanmar ready to open visa-on-arrival policy
Myanmar sources confirmed regarding easing visa procedures for three nations from 1st October. The officials of Tourism say that sources confirm regarding the tourists of Japan, China and South Korea will get visa-on-arrival for 28 days.
Generally, such announcements concerning any changes to the e-Visa are posted on the website of Ministry of Labor, and Immigration. The recent changes will extend the present visa-on-arrival service to citizens of Japan, China and South Korea at Yangon, Nay Pyi Daw and Mandalay which are the three international airports.
The Chinese visitors have to pay USD 50 for it and there is a fee waiver for South Korean and Japanese travelers. They have to complete a form at the arrival hall of the airport and demonstrate an evidence of possessing USD 1,000 in cash. Besides, a return air ticket and hotel bookings, for staying in the country, are also compulsory.
The visitors of Japan and South Korea can also apply for a visa-on-arrival at four land border checkpoints it shares with Thailand. These are Myawaddy, Tachileik, Kawthaung as well as Htee Khee. The visa-on-arrival has a validity of 28 days, and there is no provision to extend it. Furthermore it is applicable for independent travelers and for package tours travelers also.
The advance-visa e-Visa scheme is convenient. Citizens need to complete a simple online form, and also attach a photo besides paying U.S.D. 50. It takes three days for receiving the bar code and approval number.
Travelers have to present a print out of the letter of approval to immigration officials at approved airports and checkpoints. They can Enter through a border checkpoint and exit through another. 40% of travelers to Myanmar apply for a visa in advance by using the service at an Embassy/Consulate.
Chinese leisure visitors are large in numbers. South Korea and Japan present a high-value market. Myanmar will get a good benefit if it offers visa-free status similar to ASEAN member nationalities. Tourism from Malaysia has a possibility of substantial growth in case there are visa-free travel privileges for Malaysians.
In Myanmar tourist arrivals contracted by 2% during the first half of 2018 and reached 17,22,049 visits. The Tourism Ministry data shows 682,100 visitors entering the country on visas. 1,039,949 had a border pass from Thailand, India and China. The country has a plan to attract 7 million visitors by 2020.
