India to do Away with Multiple Immigration Checks

April 17, 2017

By the time August rolls around, the train bound for Dhaka from Kolkata would have end-to-end security inspections before boarding.

Presently, there is a double stop for migration inspection on the dual line from Kolkata to Dhaka. The first is in the Nadia area in Bengal, while the other is located in Dorshona. However, reports show that change is coming. The migration inspections would be carried out at those two stops in Kolkata and Dhaka.

“As from August, we want to begin an end to end migration investigation along the route from Kolkata to Dhaka. The scheme would be mirrored like that of an airport. Migration inspections are carried out once before boarding, and then at the stop where the passenger is to alight,” the manager in charge of the railway said.

As far as he is concerned, there are plans in place to make the train coaches on the route fully air-conditioned. The train track for the transport service between Kolkata and Khulna was constructed today.

A train which had around seven coaches carried out a test journey lasting two hours between Bangladesh and Kolkata. The track is aimed to be commissioned by July. “Presently, the test travel was carried out between the cities of Benapole and Kolkata.

The primary train route between Kolkata and Khulna would be revisited in July,” the train manager said. The train route between Khulna and Kolkata had been functional since before the independence of the nation. “We are yet to fix ticket prices for the journey.

That should be decided soon,” he also said.
