H-1B Visa Applications Dropped this Time

April 19, 2017

For the first time in recent memory, some applications put forward for the acquisition of an H-1B permit have dropped.

That is an indication that the stance taken by the current president of the United States to put America first is finally being taken seriously by foreign employees, and it is preventing them from coming into the country, reports have stated.

That stance by the president would become even fiercer from Tuesday when he is aiming to pass into law an executive policy that aims to alter the way the permit scheme is run.

The United States migration and customs body disclosed on Monday that foreigners had put forward around 199,000 applications for the H-1B permit for the following year, a report released by the federal migration department stated.

That is a sharp decline from the figure obtained the previous year which stood at 236,000, and in 2015 it was 233,000.

The president is on his way to the state of Wisconsin where he hopes to pass into law the policy that has been nicknamed “Patronize American goods, Employ American Workers,” officials in his government stated. Speaking under cover of anonymity to newsmen regardless of the scathing comments the president had earlier made about anonymous sources; the officials disclosed that the policy would be signed by the president at the head office of American tool makers Snap-on. The policy is meant to order the country’s department of homeland security and other adjoining departments to submit new policies that would stop migration scams and deceit.

They would also be asked to submit alterations that would bring forth desirable alterations in the issuance of H-1B permits to the most talented of all migrant employees.

The permit lets international employees with skills and talent stay in the nation for nearly six years being employed at a firm that sponsors their migration permits.

Technology firms in Silicon Valley, from small startup firms to seasoned legends like Facebook, are heavily reliant on the scheme to fill positions in their companies such as software engineers and programmers.

With the uncertainty surrounding the scheme under the current administration and the booming state of the economy, migration lawyers expected that there would be a high turn up in applications for the permit.

They were, however, shocked at the low turn up of applications put forward. “so many foreigners have their eyes on the country and are still contemplating if it is still a viable place to do business,” a lawyer of migration said.

During the period of his campaign, the president had stated his support for the permits, only to change his mind about them as soon as he was elected.
