March 16, 2017

Former president of Egypt, Hosni Mubarak who was dethroned in 2011 revolution, will be set free from arrest in a military hospital, the public accuser declared on Monday. “Hosni would return to his home in Heliopolis,” his lawyer Farid El Deeb disclosed, while also saying the former president would most likely be set free on Tuesday or later.

Hosni was acquitted of murder accusations leveled against him in the month of his last judgment, after facing different allegations ranging from corrupt practices to ordering the execution of those who protested his before the termination of his 30-year reign. He was meant to serve one more prison term but was acquitted after doing time for murder charges, court sources made known to reporters.

The trial removed the jail time done in the murder case from the prison time he was supposed to serve for another different case where he was found guilty of misappropriating funds meant for making the presidential palaces run.

Initially, in 2012, Hosni was sentenced to life in prison for conniving to kill about 239 protesters during the protestation that lasted around 18-days, one that created trouble and made available a breach in security but at the same time paved the way for real democracy and social equity.

An appeal court decreed a retrial that climaxed in 2014 in the case against Hosni and his officials be discharged from the court. An appeal by public accusers gave rise to a concluding retrial by the highest court in the country, which also discharged and acquitted him on March 2.
