Portugal: Unique, Gorgeous and Diverse

Portugal is on the Iberian Peninsula in Southern Europe along with Spain and has one of the warmest climates in Europe, as it is part of the Schengen Area if you are travelling to Portugal from India, you just need to apply for a Schengen visa from the embassy in New Delhi and then pack your bags.

Portugal has a rich, friendly culture with stunning countryside and vibrant cities with lively nightlife and great food.

Portugal has mountains, beaches, lush vineyards and desert-like landscapes as well as the glamorous resorts of the Algarve.

It is also one of the best countries in which to play golf, and 14 of its courses have been rated amongst the best in Europe.

The country is 900 years old and has been a major player in the history of the world, with its discoveries of the New World such as finding the sea route from Europe to India, and it also colonised parts of Africa and South America. 

The capital city of Portugal is Lisbon and the currency is the Euro, the language spoken is Portuguese, which is also still spoken in some South American countries such as Brasil.

The Portuguese love festivals and there are many to choose from such as Lisbon’s Festa de Santo António and Porto’s Festa de São João and the bars are always fun, many with live music.

Food in Portugal is fresh and healthy and consists of chargrilled fish, olives, cataplana fish stew, sardines and smoked meats with fresh baked bread and if you like wine, there are some superb Portuguese wines. There are over 800 kilometres of scenic coastline to explore as well as the Parque Nacional da Peneda -Gerês or you can watch dolphins play in the Sado Estuary, whatever you enjoy, you will find in the sun-soaked land of Portugal, all you need is a flight and a visa from India.
