H-1B visa program for fiscal year 2015-2016

In a bid to address available skill shortages in the country, the United States, businesses use US H-1B visa program every year and recruit skilled immigrants from India. Similarly, on 1 April 2015, USCIS has started applications intake for fiscal year 2015-2016. And, the great thing is within the period of five days after the program start, the cap of 65,000 visas has reached. Remarkably, this time 233,000 foreigners have applied for the H-1B visas, a huge rise from the previous year.


The US H-1B visa program is specially used to employ overseas skilled nationals in certain professions that need theoretical or practical application of highly specialized knowledge.


H-1B visa


H-1B visa is an employed based non-immigrant work visa structured for temporary skilled immigrants to migrate to the US. This is an employer sponsored visa, that is, in order to get approval for this visa an individual must hold a job offer from the employer, and employer should file petitions for an employee at USCIS.  The US government has set an annual cap of 65,000 visas for this program. And additionally, 20,000 visas were set for applicants who have finished their master’s degree from the US University. Initially, this visa is issued for a period up to three years and it is possible to extend visas for three more years.


The IT industries in the US, are unable to fill the skill shortages, thus to address the skill shortages in the country they are urging the United States government to increase the cap on H-1B visa petitions. Apparently, more than 545,000 tech jobs remain vacant in the US. So, IT employers or executives call US raise the cap.
