Come to The Melting Pot That is Suriname

Suriname is a sovereign coastal state in South America and is the smallest country there, bordered by Brazil to the south, Guyana to the West and French Guiana to the East and holidaymakers coming from India only need a visitor card which lasts for 90 days from the Johan Adolf Pengel International Airport. The state was a former Dutch colony and the main languages spoken there are Dutch and English yet the place has a distinctly Caribbean feel about it and a very laid back way of life. The capital city is Paramaribo and the currency is the Surinamese Dollar. Suriname is culturally very diverse with indigenous people, East Indian, Creole, Javanese and Mixed Race people and this is reflected in the local food, music and religion and it enjoys a tropical climate. The economy of Suriname depends upon the export of Bauxite, Bananas and Shrimp and it also has gold and oil. Paramaribo is a colourful, friendly city with a buzzing nightlife, and romantic sunset cruises on the Commewijne River to see pink river dolphins and the faded splendour of old plantation mansions.

Visit Suriname

Any visitor from India to Suriname has to take a trip out of town to the jungles of the interior. The Maroons, who are descended from escaped slaves have African style villages in the jungle that have now been opened out to tourists, with luxury camps with swimming pools through to basic hammock strewn lodgings and these trips can be booked by travel companies in Paramaribo.

Once you get back to the city, holidaymakers always head to the Central Market to buy fresh food and colourful clothes and local arts and if you want something a little more exotic, the Maroon Market, otherwise known as the Witches Market sells voodoo type herbs, potions and even bones, it has to be seen to be believed but get there in the morning as it gets busy in the afternoon. So what’s holding you back, book a visa-free flight to mysterious yet friendly Suriname now.
