Business Innovation stream: Individuals with business skills, who would like to set-up, expand and handle a new or existing business in Australia can apply under this stream.

Investor stream: This stream is for individuals who would like to make a selected investment of minimum AUD1.5million in an Australian territory or state as well as continue business as well as an investment activity in Australia.

Significant Investor stream: This stream is for individuals who are ready to invest at least AUD5million into Australia investments and would like to retain business as well as investment activity in Australia.

The said Visa program comes into two types – Investor Visa Subclass 162 and subclass 165 states sponsored visa).

Features of Business Innovation and Investment (Provisional) visa (subclass 188)

The following are the features of this visa program:

  •          Individuals can set-up a new business or improve their existing business or invest in Down Under, in order to make a          specified investment with an Australian territory or state.
  •          Visa holders are also allowed to travel across Australia till the completion of the visa validity period
  •          Family members can accompany in Australia
  •          Apply for Permanent Residence by applying for a Business Innovation and Investment (Permanent) visa (subclass              888).

Business Innovation and Investment (Permanent) visa (subclass 888)

Individuals can obtain this visa if they are nominated by territory or state; and

They should hold a provisional Business Innovation & an Investment visa (subclass 188) and have abided by the certain visa requirements under this stream.


The Individual should hold, a hold a Business (Long stay) visa (subclass 457IE) or Special Category Visa (subclass 444) and should comply with business innovation stream requirements.


This visa is a second stage of Business Innovation and Investment (Provisional) visa (subclass 188). Individuals can apply for subclass 888 visa, only after meeting the provisional visa requirements. Under this visa stream, individuals are not required to submit a new EOI (Expression of Interest) or be invited to apply for Business, Innovation and Investment (Permanent) visa (subclass 888). However, they need to be getting nominated by the state or territory government if they are looking to fulfill the main criteria. 

If individuals is a provisional subclass 188 visa holder and their nomination by state or territory has not withdrawn the nomination, then they have an existing nomination by that territory or state.

If applicant is a holder of the Special Category visa (subclass 444) or need nomination from a diverse state or territory than their subclass 188 visa are required to get nomination from a territory or state prior to lodging a visa application.

Features of Business Innovation and Investment (Permanent) visa (subclass 888)

This program allows individuals to manage their business and investments in Australia

It is a Permanent resident visa and allows visa holders to:

  •          Stay in Australia permanently
  •          Study and work in Australia
  •          Enroll in Medicare
  •          Be eligible to apply Australian citizenship
  •          Sponsor eligible relatives for PR
  •          Travel across Australia for a period of five years from the date the visa is issued
