Welcome to Sweden: The Land of Fjords

June 14, 2016

Sweden is a North European Scandinavian country that is bordered by Norway and Finland and Denmark by a bridge-tunnel, and as it is part of the Schengen Area, Indian citizens wishing to travel to Sweden just need to apply for a Schengen visa which allows travel within the Schengen Area for up to three months. The official language is Swedish and the currency is the Swedish Krona, and the capital city, which is also the largest city, is Stockholm, a thriving modern city.

Welcome to Sweden: The Land of Fjords

Sweden has the distinction of being the third biggest European country and its population numbers some 9.8million inhabitants. The north of the country is thickly forested and the south is mainly farmland. It enjoys a mild climate and very warm summers, although the far north is much colder. Sweden is a very stylish country from the fashion to the architecture and the many public spaces.

There is evidence of their Viking heritage everywhere, from burial mounds, rune stones, and ancient walled cities.

Holidaymakers can even visit reconstructed Viking longboats and hear tales about their fearsome exploits or watch battle reenactments. In the far north of Sweden live the Sami people who live a nomadic lifestyle based around reindeer herding, you can take a trip to Lapland and watch the eerie northern lights shimmer across the sky or take a trip on a dogsled.

The most beautiful thing about Sweden is its stunning countryside, which is ideal for hiking, camping or even taking a picnic, and if you like something a little more exciting there are outdoor sports such as skiing, fishing, and boating.

Any traveller to Sweden from India will enjoy tucking into the fresh fish and smoked meats and sipping a coffee at a pavement café or taking a boat trip down a fjord.
