Trinidad and Tobago - The Twin Islands That Offer Parties and Quiet


Trinidad and Tobago is a twin island, which lies just off South America and Indian citizens can travel visa free to Trinidad and Tobago as long as they have a valid passport and enough spending money for this Caribbean vacation. The capital city is Port of Spain and the main language is English as well as Spanish, French, Hindi, Arabic and Creole. The biggest city on the twinned islands is San Fernando, and the country has a mix of religions including Christianity, Hinduism, Muslim and others. The island used to be part of the British Empire until 1962 and as a result car drivers, drive on the left here. There are 1,349,667 inhabitants on the island and the currency is the Trinidad and Tobago dollar.    The island has been colonised by more countries than any other in the Caribbean including Britain, Spain, French and the Dutch. It’s the third wealthiest country in the Americas after the USA and Canada and this is down to large natural reserves of gas and oil.  The island is also very rich in wildlife and has more than 400 species of birds and 100 different species of mammals, making it is one of the most biodiverse nations in the Caribbean.

Its also world renowned for its many carnivals and it diverse musical styles such as Soca, Calypso, Chutney and Parang, as well as the limbo dance. Trinidad can be full of Carnival participants and followers grooving to the thumping beats while dressed in extravagant spangled costumes. The countryside itself is filled with waterfalls, quiet bays and great hiking and biking trails, and the southwest of the country shows its links to Indian culture with temples and curry houses.

While Trinidad is busy with parties and industry, small Tobago has rainforests, nature reserves and superb bays from which to go diving. It has luxurious hotels as well as small guesthouses, and has only one large town called Scarborough. Holidaymakers travelling from India to Trinidad and Tobago can choose between a quiet holiday or one packed with dancing and music.
