The latest statistics that affect international immigrants

Details

International migration has sparked vociferous reactions in host countries against the migrants. Immigration is only a small percentage of the local population and the immigrants do not have a competition with the local persons for high end jobs.

The reasons for immigration are its association about the economies in the world and the thrust it provides for global competitiveness. There is a humanitarian angle also as it provides protection in the times of global displacements.

Data

As per the UN Migration Report 2017 the strength of the immigrants was 258 million. There was an increase of 100 million between 1990 and 2017. The biggest motivating factor is the better quality of life and the process of globalization. In 2017 Indian migrants were the largest and the most popular destination was USA. The United States is the topmost destination for international migrants since 1960. Moreover, one-fifth of the world's migrants live there. It has a long history of immigration, and perceives immigration as a resource of great value. Presently, under the Trump administration, it is seeing it as a major challenge also.

OECD Data

Advanced Economies have many foreign workers. OECD Data shows that Spain had a large share of migrants as a part of its population at 10%.  Many immigrants hold good and technical jobs in the U.S. as well as in other labor markets of the world.

There is enough data in the world to have a strong case for immigration. It needs policymaking initiatives, and also requires authoritative and timely information without any bias.

Statistics from USA

In USA in 2016, 49 percent immigrants (21.2 million) became naturalized citizens. There were 22.5 million either lawful permanent residents, unauthorized immigrants, or residents on temporary visas like the students and temporary workers.  Indian immigrants are sizable in some countries and in the USA they were 61,691 getting lawful PR Status as per the recent figures. Immigrant populations in the USA have been growing fast for many decades. Crime in the same period has moved in the opposite direction, and presently the national rate of violent crime is well below what existed in 1980.

Finally, we can say that immigrants are assets and governments can use their talent and services for the growth of the nations.
