SA travelers may no longer require visas to travel to EU

October 01, 2016
The main agenda of the negotiations on migration-related issues between South Africa and Europe will be to exempt South African travelers from requiring a travel visa to Europe. During the negotiation, South Africa’s Home Affairs Minister, Malusi Gigaba discussed the immigration issues with Dr. Marcus Cornaro, the European Union ambassador.

Amongst the various issues discussed between the two nations, the focus was on to seek the possibility of issuing multiple-entry permits to the South Africa’s business class to enter the European Union and also to provide visa exemptions to the South African leisure travelers visiting Europe.

The South African Minister after the discussion said that “We discussed future arrangements for visa exemptions for ordinary SA passport holders in the EU. We made it clear that this was our top prize, but we are prepared to have a gradual approach.”

The Marketing Manager at Thompsons Travel feels that the initiative to waive of the visa requirements for the SA travelers and the travel agents is definitely a news to feel happy about.

She further said that the SA travelers are frequently deterred by visa requirements, which they feel are difficult. “They’ll opt for visa-free destinations such as Thailand because they want to avoid the hassle of having to obtain a visa. So, if the EU were to scrap their visa requirements that would without a doubt influence the decision-making process in favor of Europe.”
