Poland: The Fashionable European Country to Visit

Poland is a country within the Schengen Area of Central Europe, so visitors travelling there from India need only apply for a Schengen Visa at their nearest embassy in Mumbai or New Delhi. It is bordered by Germany, Ukraine, Lithuania and the Czech Republic and has a population of more than 38.5 million people and is one of the ten largest countries in Europe. It used to be part of the Soviet Union but gained independence in the 1980’s, and is now becoming more and more popular with forward thinking, hip travellers for its amazing landscape and architecture, picturesque cities and towns and a lively café culture. The capital city is Warsaw and the currency is the Polish Zloty, and the country has everything from castles to wooden churches, open-air museums, hip bars, Gothic, Baroque and Renaissance architecture and vast forests including the oldest primeval forest in Europe. Poland has had a varied history due to its position in the centre of Europe, and was invaded by both Germany and Russia, yet has still managed to hold onto its own culture.

Visit Poland

Polish food tends to be hearty and filling and relies on local ingredients such as cabbage, pork, goose, trout, duck, mushrooms, beetroot, as well as treats like apple strudel, pancakes, cream cakes and ice cream. The countryside is full of wide rivers, mountains, lakes and forests, and is great if you enjoy hiking or kayaking. And if you come in December, the Christmas markets sell beautiful hand made wooden toys and trinkets, and as Poland is a relatively developing nation, it is still a cheap place to have a holiday, and as it is so close to other countries in the Schengen Area, it can be visited alongside other European countries when doing your grand tour of Europe from India.
