Peaceful places to visit abroad

With the growing discord all over the world, the world is turning dangerous by each passing year. Since 2008 there has been a sudden and drastic change on the Global front due to various anti-human activities including terrorism, political unrest due to internal and external political conflicts. There are only few places left on the earth, where one can feel safe enough to live and raise kids. Even though these places are not perfect havens but according to 2014’s Global Peace Index were considered to be the 10 most peaceful countries in the world.

1.       ICELAND: Iceland was found to be the happiest and healthiest nation on earth, with a population having highest contentment. It stood out as the most peaceful country due to various factors. It boasts of 100% literacy rate, thus making it one of the most progressive nations in the world. The literate and tolerant nation promotes low crime and violence rate. Iceland does not have a standing army and consequently low military expenditures. Iceland also successfully survived the banking crisis of 2008-2011 and remains economically steady. The beautiful natural attractions like volcanoes, glaciers and amazing landscapes attract the tourists to this happy and peaceful country.

 

2.       DENMARK: Denmark is yet another progressive European nation with educated and tolerant people. Since the country always stays away from armed conflicts and concentrates more on improving the economy, it was recognized as the second safest and most peaceful place to live and visit. The Government has adopted progressive reforms and policies including healthcare, gender equality and social support as main priorities. Danish people are considered to be very helpful, supportive and optimistic. The Danish lifestyle is amazingly relaxed and unhurried, with the capital Copenhagen known as world-famous bike capital. 

3.       AUSTRIA: Austria has placed itself amongst the most peaceful countries on Earth by staying away from confrontations and conflicts since the collapse of the Austro-Hungarian empire and the Second World War. By adopting a flexible foreign policy Austria has emerged as an advantageous business partner for other nations. It is also a popular travel destination .Austrian healthcare and educational systems are widely appreciated and respected across Europe, also making it a highly educated nation. Due to its high standard of living and innovative economy, Austria’s capital Vienna was ranked as the most comfortable and livable city in the world. 

4.       NEWZEALAND: New Zealand retains its place every year in the world’s safest and most peaceful counties list, reasons being low crime rate, military capability, political stability and respect for human rights and freedom, high living standards and the tolerant and welcoming attitude of New Zealanders towards expats and minorities. New Zealand also continues to maintain strong economic and political relations with neighbor Australia. In 1987, this peaceful country was declared to be a nuclear-free zone and now supports the anti-nuclear movement. New Zealand’s abundant natural beauty, high standard of living, relaxed lifestyle and uncommonly friendly people make it a favorite travel destination for tourists across the World.

5.       SWITZERLAND: Apart from being famous for chocolates, watches and banks, astounding skiing resorts, Switzerland was also considered to be another most peaceful country by the Global Peace Index. Switzerland invests heavily and wisely in the economy and people, by providing them excellent health services, best education and employment assistance. The inhabitants are tolerant and society is multicultural, where people from different cultures, languages and beliefs live together peacefully. 

6.       FINLAND: The calm and placid nature of Finnish people makes it one of the most peaceful countries of the World. Finnish people are provided with one of the best educational system and health care, as the country invests heavily in these systems. These results in higher living standards, increased life expectancy and high literacy rate. The country ranks low on corruption, gender discrimination and class distinction. Therefore, the people of this country live more content lives and display a more positive outlook. However, Finland’s military is occasionally involved in peacekeeping operations in troubled countries like Liberia, Pakistan and middle-east. 

7.       CANADA: Due to a prosperous economy, a tolerant, multi cultural society, one of the highest living standards, numerous work benefits, Canada has remained a favorite destination for people across the world and has become home to hundreds of thousands of migrants .In 1971, it has officially declared itself to be a multicultural country, which meant people from different cultures and races enjoy equal rights and freedom. This promoted tolerance and respect in Canadians and eradicated any kind of discrimination or bias. New migrants are provided with essential free services like language classes or free workshops making them feel welcomed. As Canada stays away from military conflicts, it has low military expenditures. The fabulous natural attractions and serenity of this country attracts tourists from all over the World .No doubt Canada has been placed in this list by GPI as one of the most peaceful county. 

8.       JAPAN: Japan is another awesome country with fascinating culture. Japanese are famous for their honest, polite and friendly nature. They are highly diligent and seem to have a sweet temper. They place society over individual interests and are extremely organized, disciplined and hard working. Perhaps, these traits have made them successful in building a society which is progressive, modern, developed and above all one of the most peaceful societies in the World. Its breath taking natural beauty, ancient temples and historical sites all add up to the country’s repute of being one of the most attractive tourist destinations. 

9.       BELGIUM: In spite of being an extremely small country, Belgium is one of the best and most peaceful countries in the World. Belgium has become significant in the world politics since the end of World War II .The capital Brussels hosts NATO Headquarters and is the capital of European Union as well. The inhabitants enjoy high standards of living, quality education, health care and many other public facilities. It is of great interest for history lovers with magnificent historical sites, amazing architecture and other works of art. Belgium is world famous for its waffles, chocolates and beer, which cannot be missed on visit to this beautiful and peaceful country. 

10.   NORWAY: Last but definitely not the least on GPI’s list of most peaceful countries is Norway. Like the other countries in the list, Norway provides high standards of living and social welfare. It has invested wisely in oil production making it one of the most richest and expensive countries in the World. Similar to other Scandinavian countries, Norway also has low imprisonment and violent crime rates. Norway is usually associated with Vikings, trolls and mystical legends. Having outstanding fiords, landscapes and Northern lights, Norway is considered to be one of the friendliest and most peaceful countries in the world.

All these countries reflect similar democratic, tolerant and educated societies with high standard s of living and amazing natural resources. This list is given by the Global Peace Index (2014) as most peaceful and comfortable places on earth.
