Indian tourism hopes to benefit from tourists’ arrival in Nepal

Nepal immigration figures have revealed that approx 3.13 lakh travelers visited Nepal during the first six months of current year. It was just 2.77 lakhs during the same period last year. The figures show a significant increase by approx 13 per cent.

The Tourism advisor R. Basu said, "The disaster was a blow for Indian tourism industry too. But now this positive trend there shows a bright hope for us,"

“On an average 50,000 foreign tourists and 5 lakh domestic tourists visit Darjeeling Sikkim region per annum. Though low in count, foreign tourist arrival contributes the lions share to Rs 350 crore rupee volume of this business in this region. A Large portion of this premium class tourists come here from Nepal. "

S. Sanyal, President, Eastern Himalayan Tour and Travel Operators Association said that "At least 30% of travelers from Western world arriving Nepal prefer keeping eastern Indian destinations including Darjeeling or Sikkim in their itinerary. Domestic tourists from south or Western India visiting Nepal also do the same. Naturally, tourists’ arrival trend in Nepal leaves a major impact on an entire eastern Himalayan region."
